Allahabad Bypass is a access controlled highway and forms part of Golden Quadrilateral and National Highway 2 connecting four metropolitan cities i.e. Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai in India. It is the country's longest bypass section. This is a complete Rigid Pavement (Cement Concrete ) Highway. The Contractors for the project were m/s Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Construction Company and OSE-KMC(JV). The project was completed in 2009. ==Allahabad Bypass Project== Construction of Road from Km. 158 to 198 (except the Ganges Bridge) has been taken up by National Highways Authority of India with loan assistance from World Bank.〔() Allahabad Bypass Project -Source-World Bank〕 The total work was divided into 3 contract packages. Bidding was done on International Competitive Bidding process. The project consists of 2.608 km of 4-lane widening of the existing NH-2 and of new construction. The Allahabad Bypass takes off from of NH-2 (near Kokhraj), runs for along the existing alignment and then for along new bypass alignment, north of Allahabad city.〔() Allahabad Bypass Project, Construction supervision services for road packages expressions of interest-Source-The National Highways Authority of India〕 It rejoins the existing alignment of NH-2 (near Handia) and runs another to end at (NH-2 stationing ). The civil work involves construction of rigid pavement for the main carriageways and flexible pavement for the service roads. The work also involves construction of interchanges, overpasses, underpasses, rail over bridges, cross drainage works, river protection works and toll plaza. The existing alignment of two lane of NH-2 passes through the congested city of Allahabad and there was no scope to widen this existing road to four/six lane divided carriageway. Since the existing NH-2 passes through the Allahabad city, the ongoing traffic from Kanpur to Varanasi and vice versa had to negotiate through the city which resulted in traffic blockages in several places of the city.
